Thank you for understanding!

Rice Bowl Project 2026

This year, the Lenten Rice Bowl Project is supporting the Nourishing MInds, a non profit organization in Switzerland working in the Ekwendeni Area of Northern Malawi. Many children in Malawi walk 2 to 3 hours
to school. They often arrive at school with empty tummies and return home still having had nothing to eat due to family poverty. This results in a lack of energy and difficulty concentrating and learning throughout the school day. The goal at Nourishing Minds is to provide all primary school children in the area with a cup of porridge each school day with the additional concept of empowering the unemployed youth within this community-based project

For more information and a video about the project:

Envelopes for donations will be available at our Sunday Masses at Caravita and can be dropped directly into the collection basket. Thanks for your generosity!

March 3, 2025/in General News/by JUAN ACUNA

This year, the Lenten Rice Bowl Project is supporting Loreto Rumbek’s educational mission, which is raising funds to build a school for girls and boys in Aweil, South Sudan. Loreto Rumbek is made up of a Primary School, a Secondary School, a Primary Health Care Centre and an Education Centre. The school first opened in 2008 and provides a much-needed place of education for girls aged 5-20. In Aweil, South Sudan, in 2025, they have started their first class – 30 girls and boys. The goal is to expand the program, the number of children served, and the buildings needed so that by 2033 these children will be the first graduation class. Loreto Rumbek School, is one of many Loreto schools and colleges worldwide to have been founded by the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary (IBVM).
